As part of our ongoing commitment to sustainability and climate responsibility, we are proud to announce the renewal of our partnership with The Ugandan Bamboo Village (UBV) — an ONCRA-certified carbon offset scheme dedicated to reforestation, community development, and long-term carbon sequestration through bamboo planting.
This marks another year of meaningful collaboration with UBV, as we continue to take tangible steps toward reducing and offsetting our carbon footprint. After carefully calculating our total carbon emissions for the 2024/25 reporting year, we are delighted to confirm that UBV will once again be planting new bamboo forests to offset our residual carbon emissions — helping to restore degraded land, support local livelihoods, and protect the planet for generations to come.
Measuring What Matters: Our 2024/25 Carbon Footprint
Transparency and accountability are at the heart of our sustainability strategy. Each year, we conduct a full analysis of our operational emissions to understand where our carbon impact lies and how we can reduce it.
For 2024/25, our carbon intensity — the amount of carbon emitted per pound of revenue — has fallen to 0.22 kg CO₂e per £, representing a further reduction from last year. This is a significant achievement in itself, but it’s even more encouraging when seen in context: our carbon intensity is now 32% lower than the industry average for similar businesses.
These results show that our ongoing investment in greener materials, energy efficiency and renewable power is making a measurable difference. By focusing not only on offsetting our emissions but on reducing them at source, we’re ensuring our sustainability strategy has genuine, lasting impact.
Powering Progress: Solar Energy and Smarter Manufacturing
One of the most impactful changes in the past year has been our increased reliance on solar power within our manufacturing operations. The transition to solar has reduced our dependence on grid electricity and has allowed us to significantly cut emissions associated with production.
Our manufacturing has solar capacity at all key sites, ensuring that a growing share of the energy we use comes from clean, renewable sources. In parallel, our production team have invested in new, upgraded technology offering more energy-efficient manufacture.
These improvements haven’t only reduced our carbon footprint; they’ve also strengthened the resilience of our supply chain and insulated our business from fluctuating energy costs. The environmental and operational benefits go hand in hand, reinforcing that sustainability and good business sense are inseparable.
Why Bamboo? A Regenerative Solution
Our partnership with The Ugandan Bamboo Village continues to be a cornerstone of our carbon offset strategy — and for good reason. Bamboo is an extraordinary plant: it grows rapidly, sequesters large amounts of carbon, and helps to restore degraded land.
Each bamboo forest established by UBV captures carbon from the atmosphere while also delivering wider ecological and social benefits. The roots help to prevent soil erosion, the shade restores biodiversity, and the fast growth provides sustainable income for local farmers who harvest bamboo for use in furniture, construction, and bio-energy.
Importantly, the UBV scheme is ONCRA-certified, meaning its carbon offsets are independently verified, traceable, and aligned with international standards. Every tonne of CO₂ we offset through UBV directly supports transparent, measurable climate action.
By choosing UBV again this year, we’re reaffirming our belief in the power of regenerative natural systems to drive long-term environmental change — and in the potential for business to be a force for good in the communities it touches.
Looking Ahead: A Lighter Footprint for 2025/26
While we’re proud of our progress, we know our journey is far from complete. In the coming year, we’re taking another important step toward reducing our impact even further — this time by overhauling our packaging.
Our new packaging strategy will focus on reducing carbon impact of selected materials and increasing recyclability.
These changes form part of our wider ambition to continually lower our carbon intensity year on year.
Partnership, Progress, and Purpose
Our collaboration with The Ugandan Bamboo Village is more than a transaction; it’s a partnership rooted in shared purpose. Together, we’re demonstrating that responsible business can — and must — play an active role in restoring ecosystems, empowering communities, and tackling climate change head-on.
Each bamboo grove planted through our offset contributions represents not only carbon captured, but also hope: hope for healthier soils, cleaner air, sustainable livelihoods, and a more balanced relationship between people and the planet.
Sustainability is not a static achievement but a continuous process of learning, improving, and innovating. Every year, we set new targets, measure our performance, and look for fresh opportunities to reduce our footprint. The past twelve months have shown what’s possible when ambition is backed by action — and we’re excited to carry that momentum forward into 2026 and beyond.
A Final Word
We want to thank The Ugandan Bamboo Village team for their unwavering dedication to sustainable development and community empowerment. Their work continues to inspire us and thousands of others who believe in the transformative potential of nature-based solutions.
To our customers, partners, and employees: your support drives every part of this journey. Together, we’re proving that progress and responsibility can grow side by side — just like the bamboo forests we’re helping to plant.
Here’s to another year of growth, collaboration, and climate action — and to a greener, more sustainable future for all.
