It is ridiculous that with several brands of eco-nappy now offering products with 60-80% compostable materials, millions of nappies are still being sent to landfill rather than industrial composting facilities because it is the cheapest option for councils.
Due to stricter controls and fines, Wales now recycles or composts over 850,000 nappies a week. But nowhere else in UK does because there's no financial penalty for throwing it all in landfill.
It’s not easy to compare nappies, particularly from an ‘eco’ perspective, so we have done the comparison for you. We’ve stripped out the ‘fluffy’ descriptions, to give you the comparable facts - what materials are used in the nappies and how biodegradable they are – we’ve even checked what packaging is used.
